Here are your comp times for Kalahari!

This Tuesday, June 24th @ 7:00 PM. A meeting for any parents interested in finding out more about our competitive dance program. We’ll discuss the difference between our competitive vs recreational dance programs and answer any questions you might have about becoming involved in competitive dance. Please NO YOUNG CHILDREN. Adults and dancers who can sit attentively only. Attending the meeting is not a commitment of any kind but rather an informative venture to see if the program is right for you and your dancer. All are welcome regardless of your decision! We hope to see you there! Current Competitive Dancer Families DO NOT NEED TO ATTEND.
MAKE SURE YOU FILL OUT BOTH SIDES! Return it to the Academy along with a check for the registration fee no earlier than June 23rd. You can mail them in, drop them through our doors, or bring them in person during business hours.
If you are dropping them through our doors, please do not do so before 7:00am June 23rd, and make sure you mark the time on your envelope. As we receive the forms, we will number them in the order they arrive. These numbers will be your place in line to buy tickets for NEXT YEAR’S recital.
In addition, those who pre-register will also get first choice of the available class times for next season, before we open registration to the general public. A class schedule will be ready no later than July 15th. Anyone who is pre-registered before the schedule is complete will be called to confirm class time.
The registration fee is $30.00 per student or $50.00 for a family. Please submit your check along with your pre-registration form(s). The registration fee will ONLY be refundable to those who submit their forms and checks BEFORE the schedule is complete on the basis that we cannot accommodate you with our class times. Those who submit their forms and checks after the schedule is complete are NON-REFUNDABLE.

HOW TO READ OUR CLASS SCHEDULE
MAKE SURE YOU MATCH YOUR COLORS! Once our schedule is posted, make sure you pick classes that all match! All ORANGE classes will be in the 1PM recital next year. All GREEN classes will be in the 6PM show next year. Intermediate and competition classes could potentially perform in both shows and will not be color coded. DANGER! DO NOT PICK DIFFERENT COLORS UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE IN TWO DIFFERENT SHOWS!
Congratulations on 2 great shows yesterday, everyone! Don’t forget that pre-registration for fall begins tomorrow morning at 7AM! READ YOUR PRE-REGISTRATION COVER LETTER FOR INSTRUCTIONS. I have posted a copy of the instructions on our website notes page in case yours has been misplaced too. We hope to see you in summer classes and/or next fall!
Things to remember this week…
*The studio is closed. No regular classes.
*Dress Rehearsals are AT THE THEATER NOT AT THE STUDIO.
*Bring your camera to Dress Rehearsal! You WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO VIDEO OR PHOTOGRAPH THE RECITAL. So get your pics at dress rehearsal!
*All balances must be Paid In Full for your dancer to participate in the recital. We will be at the studio briefly on Tuesday 6-8PM if you need to make a payment. Otherwise, you must pay with cash at dress rehearsal in order for your dancer to dance on recital night.
*Read your dress rehearsal and recital paperwork thoroughly.
*Make sure you have EMPTIED YOUR LOCKER at the studio of all necessary dance shoes. We will be there Tuesday from 6-8PM if you still need to do so.
*Email Miss Amber with any other questions. No one will be there to get phone messages after Tuesday.
*Do you have back up tights? Purchase a pair of back up tights just in case…(optional)
*Have a Great Recital!
Dress Rehearsal will be held on Wednesday, June 18th and Thursday, June 19th at the Ford Performing Arts Center 15801 Michigan Ave, Dearborn, MI. Please check the back of this sheet to find out what time you must be there.
HOW IT RUNS: For the most part, dress rehearsal runs SHOW A ON WEDNESDAY IN SHOW ORDER and SHOW B ON THURSDAY IN SHOW ORDER. Some dances will need to reherase both nights. The reason being is for our technical team. We can eliminate technical light, sound and other such errors that can occur when different dances follow each other in different shows by properly rehearsing them. Sections of the recital that are identical in both shows will only rehearse once.
Make note of your arrival time so you won’t be late. Your arrival time is earlier than your assigned rehearsal time so that we can keep moving if we are running ahead of schedule.
DO NOT WEAR YOUR COSTUME FROM HOME. It could get damaged or soiled on the way to rehearsal. We have allowed space and time for you to change when you arrive.
REMINDERS FOR APPROPRIATE PERFORMANCE APPEARANCE:
*No nail polish on fingers or toes.
*No underwear under your tights. Tights are the dancer’s underwear, and under pants can show on stage even if you think the costume completely covers them. If dancer needs something for the time of month, you may purchase dancers’ briefs at our store which are designed to disappear under tights and costumes.
*No jewelry or extra accessories are to be worn. This includes earrings.
*Dress Rehearsal means Dress Rehearsal. Plan on full make-up, correct hair, and all costume pieces.
Each dance will run 1 or 2 times on stage depending on need. You are welcome to video tape the rehearsal. However, there may be people walking around, hanging backdrops, etc. while your dance is in progress. NO VIDEO TAPING IS ALLOWED DURING ACTUAL RECITAL PERFORMANCE. Once you are done with your dance(s), you are free to leave. You are not required to stay until the end of rehearsal.
There is absolutely NO FOOD OR DRINK ALLOWED in the theater or dressing rooms.
This is the theater’s policy which we respect and abide by at all times. Make sure you tidy up your own area in the dressing rooms before leaving as well. You are welcome to eat in the lobby area if needed.
FOR DANCERS IN THE STUDIO 1 & 2: The theater calls the studio “Studio A”. This is your dressing room which will be divided into 2 sides by room dividers on recital night.
DANCERS IN DRESSING ROOM A and C: These dressing rooms are in the backstage hallway.
Dressing Room A is NOT Studio A.
BOYS & MEN: Go directly to Dressing Room B via the backstage hallway.
ONCE YOU ARE CHANGED, YOU MAY SIT DOWN IN THE AUDITORIUM AND WATCH THE REHEARSAL UNTIL YOUR DANCE IS CALLED.
PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR ARRIVAL TIME. REHEARSAL TENDS TO RUN EARLY,
SO DO NOT BE LATE!
We are still in need of many chaperons for our children at the recital. A class chaperon is in charge of helping certain groups change costumes between numbers, keep an eye on them in the dressing rooms, walk the younger kids to the restrooms, etc. Remember that all chaperons do get to watch their kids dance right from the wings backstage, so you won’t miss a thing by volunteering. And audience members are not allowed backstage, so please do not plan on trying to watch the show and assist your dancer between numbers. If you’d still rather just sit back and watch the show we are happy to hire folks to assist your kids for you. Just remember each group member will be charged a $5 fee to do so as stated in our policy book. If you’re thinking about helping out, check at the desk next week to see if your class still needs volunteers. We’d be happy to have you! Deadline for all chaperons to sign up is May 10th.
As you registered for class at the beginning of the year, you were assigned a number. They were given out in the order in which you registered. According to that number, you have been assigned an appointment time to buy your tickets. No one will be taken before their appointment time.
Ticket sales are on Saturday, May 17th from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
If you cannot attend your appointment time, you may leave an envelope at the front desk with your name, buying number, appointment time, and how many tickets written on the front. Place a check inside for the appropriate amount along with any specifications as to where you would like to sit (closest to front, on an aisle, balcony, etc.). We will pick the best seats available at your appointment time according to these specifications.
If you miss your ticket purchasing time and did not leave an envelope for your tickets, you may purchase them at the desk anytime after May 19th.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask us!

If your dancer is not a competitive dancer and is required to perform some/all of their dances in both shows: To ensure that all families get to see all of their dances within one show, it is sometimes necessary for dances to be performed in both recitals. For your convenience, you might qualify for one complimentary ticket to the second show. Here’s how…If you purchase all your tickets for one show – including your own, you will receive 1 free ticket to sit through the second show while your dancer performs. You may also choose to volunteer as a dressing room worker for the second show. Please ask us if you have questions about qualifying for the complimentary ticket.
